A superbly presented, ‘numbers matching’ example of the sought-after classic ‘pony car’, finished in a vibrant factory hue and benefitting from a prior restoration.
Under the bonnet is the original 4.9-litre small-block Boss 302 V8, which has been professionally rebuilt and is paired with a reconditioned wide-ratio four-speed manual transmission with a factory Hurst shifter.
The odometer shows 43,970 miles
Built at Metuchen, this left-hand Ford Mustang was imported from Massachusetts, USA, to Australia in 2011.
It was then put on a rotisserie for a ‘nut and bolt’ restoration using new old stock parts wherever possible, with the goal of bringing it to concours condition.
This Boss 302 ‘Sportsroof’ is one of 1,287 examples finished in Grabber Green paintwork over a black vinyl-trimmed interior with Hi-Back bucket seats.
It features colour-keyed racing mirrors and functional front spoiler, and rides on 15-inch ‘Magnum 500’ wheels shod in high walled Goodyear Polyglas GT tyres.
This Mustang is equipped with power front disc brakes, quick ratio steering and competition suspension.
It was optioned with the aforementioned wide-ratio four-speed manual transmission and Traction-Lok differential, along with the optional rear axle ratio, sports deck folding rear seat, interior convenience group, and a deluxe AM/FM stereo radio.
During the restoration of the engine, all correct and unique Boss parts were retained, including the rev-limiter, Autolite Holley 780 carburettor, Carter X fuel pump, heavy-duty radiator, and nodular iron 3.91 ratio 9-inch Traction-Lok differential.
The car will be accompanied by its original sales invoice, owner’s manual, registration certificate, a Marti Deluxe report, and a letter from Ford confirming the original specification based on the VIN.

The paintwork is in excellent overall condition, with no visible marks or blemishes around the car, save for some small chips on the matte black air intake, and further chips and light corrosion on the wheels.
Inside, the cabin presents equally well. As is to be expected given the car’s age, there is some general age-related hazing on the gauge lenses and radio dial, along with small marks on the backs of the front seats, but the interior is in great shape overall.
This Mustang’s most recent maintenance was carried out at an indicated 43,860 miles by Pete's Classic Garage in Melbourne. This included fitting four new Koni shock asborbers, two upper control arms, a heater core, a spring saddle, a pump seal kit, clutch pedal pad and trim, a carburettor rebuild kit, a pressure switch for the brakes, and two halogen sealed-beam globes.
